It took me a while to wrap my head around this\u2014I hate the word salesman. (I immediately think of bad suits and terrible cologne and that typical cheesy salesman experience we\u2019ve all had.) But with such a saturated market, learning to sell your services and book leads is imperative\u2014it\u2019s a huge part of the job.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s really all about selling yourself without coming across as too \u201csales-y\u201d\u2014this balance of selling but not <em>over<\/em>selling is key. There\u2019s nothing worse than sitting in a meeting with someone who is <em>so<\/em> focused on selling their services that they\u2019re missing opportunities to genuinely connect with you. Booking leads (and being a successful salesperson) is all about connection first.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019re able to make that connection, it comes down to following a few basic guidelines in order to ensure that you\u2019re taking people from being merely interested to signing on the dotted line. So today, I\u2019ve broken down our top five tips for becoming a booking queen or king:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1. Respond immediately<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It is <em>so <\/em>important to your overall client experience to set up a system that allows you to respond immediately to inquiries. Engaged couples are excited (as in <em>super<\/em> excited) and want to feel special\u2014nothing will take the wind out of their sails like having to wait a full week for an email back from you. At LVL, we start from a template response and then tweak it based on individual lead details. The key is personalization\u2014begin with a template for ease and time-saving, but be sure to add a few personal touches so they don\u2019t feel like it\u2019s an auto-responder.<\/p>\n<p>After responding immediately to their inquiry, your next priority should be setting up a phone call to qualify the lead. This means asking the right questions to find out if this person is your <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/hbbadmin.reliablepenguin.com\/blog\/evaluate-customer-fit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"ideal client\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">ideal client<\/a>. Not every lead or inquiry is going to be the right fit\u2014use this initial communication as a way to filter leads and ensure you\u2019re not wasting your time (or theirs.)<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2. Have a game plan for your call or meeting<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Make sure you\u2019ve got a list of thoughtful, helpful questions to ask during your first phone call or meeting. You want to remain in control of the conversation and guide it in a productive direction, without ever feeling too pushy or overtly sales-y. Having a thorough list of your own questions\u2014while being open to answering theirs\u2014is key.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>3. Listen<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This may sound like common sense, but between nerves and the pressure of wanting them to book, sometimes remembering to simply listen can be the hardest part. You\u2019ll have your list of questions, of course, but this doesn\u2019t mean steamrolling the potential client in order to ask them. The quickest way to book a client is to make them feel like a million bucks every time they\u2019re around you\u2014to be someone they <em>want<\/em> to spend time with. Listening\u2014and even repeating their questions and concerns to ensure you\u2019re understanding them right\u2014is a big part of making someone feel heard, important and like you\u2019re committed to doing a great job.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3><strong>4. Show your expertise.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Look for opportunities to offer little snippets of advice that demonstrate your expertise. If you can throw in a word of wisdom that subtly lets the couple know this isn\u2019t your first rodeo, you\u2019ll sell them on the fact they <em>need<\/em> you (and all of your awesome resources, ideas, and connections).<\/p>\n<p>For example, if the bride tells you she has five bridesmaids and isn\u2019t sure what to do about dresses, you can say, \u201cI\u2019m not sure if this is something you\u2019ve thought of yet, but I just saw Jenny Yoo came out with a new bridesmaid dress line that\u2019s super versatile. You should check it out. Let me know if you want me to send you the link.\u201d Or, if they\u2019re thinking of a venue you\u2019re familiar with, chime in and give them an insider\u2019s tip or two about the place. (\u201cThat\u2019s a beautiful spot\u2014the only tricky thing with that one can be lighting, but we\u2019ve actually done some really great work-arounds in the past by bringing in market lights and marquee signs.\u201d)<\/p>\n<h3><strong>5. Communicate next steps.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If the lead is qualified, never let the first call or meeting end without a game plan for what will happen next. First, you should check that you\u2019ve answered all of their questions\u2014ask them this before you hang up the phone or leave the meeting. Let them know they can email you or call you if they think of anything else, and then let them know what to expect next. (\u201cI had a great time chatting with you.
