Being confident with your search engine optimization\u2014or SEO\u2014can be\nmission-critical for bringing in free traffic from web sources such as Google.\nSEO is important because whether you have a website, blog, or online store, SEO\ncan help your business grow and be found online. In addition, understanding how\nyour most popular keywords impact your business can have a huge impact on how\nyou name webpages, title emails, and write content on your blog. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To\nget started with spicing up your SEO, let\u2019s do a quick keyword exercise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Make a\nlist of keywords you want your website to appear for.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Ask\nothers how they would search for your business or site and add these terms to\nyour keyword list.<\/li><li><\/li><li>You can\nalso use a free tool like <a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/explorer\">Moz<\/a> to do keyword research and come up\nwith additional popular keyword choices for your website.<\/li><li><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once\nyou\u2019ve finished these steps, make sure that your homepage has a 2-3 sentence\ndescription using these keywords. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now it\u2019s time to update the content\nalready on your website. Using a list of all of the pages on your website,\nassign a primary or focus keyword (from the list you made above) for each page.\nBe creative, but also think about what someone who is looking for your business\nwould type into Google. Once you\u2019ve assigned your keywords:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Do a\nquick audit of the metadata and on-page optimization for your top webpages.\nFill in the meta description or SEO areas on each page of your website if they\nare blank. <\/li><li><\/li><li>Place\nthe focus keyword in the title tag or H1 at least once. Try to keep the keyword\nphrase as close to the beginning of the title tag as possible. <\/li><li><\/li><li>Use\nthis keyword at least once prominently near the top of the page in the body\ncontent.<\/li><li><\/li><li>Then,\nplace that keyword (including variations) at least two or three other times in\nthe body copy on the page (or perhaps a few more times if there&#8217;s a lot of text\non the page). <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If\npossible, place your primary keyword in the URL of the webpage. <\/li><li><\/li><li>Add the\nmain keyword at least once in the meta description tag. Note that the meta\ndescription tag does not get used by search engines for rankings, but rather\nhelps to attract clicks from searchers reading the results page, as the meta\ndescription becomes the snippet of text used by the search engines.<\/li><li><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There\nare many aspects to SEO, from the words on your page to the way other sites\nlink to you on the web. Sometimes SEO is simply a matter of making sure your\nsite is structured in a way that search engines understand. By updating the top\npages of your website with the simple technique outlined above, you too can\nbecome a leader in your space with SEO. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With\nyour keyword list, you can better understand what words or phrases are associated\nwith your business online. You can use these same keywords in your\ne-newsletters, in emails to clients, in blog posts, as hashtags, and more. Be\nconsistent, and be sure to track your results.
